While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood. âThis animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term. âExcept perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â the mayor added. âMay this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.â This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the regionâs Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House. The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling â6-7â â deriving from a hip-hop line â often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year. A Future Secured Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary âdistant from barbecues and spitsâ, according to the ceremony's official statement. âThe pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,â said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message. âIt represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.â Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked Six Sevenâs big moment.
