The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl harboring several human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though other scenes show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one remaining could be a fake. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
