Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
