Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup races. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup top-three result. Strong Return in Val d'Isere Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place. "I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Retirement Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades. She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings. This season's World Cup campaign includes a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
