Information Available Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

At least 16 lives were killed and more than 40 sustained injuries when assailants fired on a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.

In the latest update, authorities have announced the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were admitted to hospital.

The victims are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages range between 10 and 87 years old.

Below are the individuals who have been identified at this time.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She recounted the events leading up to the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the statement continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number remain under care, with a number in serious condition. The injured include two officers who responded to the attack.

One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
