England to Start the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward entry for a championship taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Protest

The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the site by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The first match of the European Championship will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at 5pm.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for European club finals from the upcoming season, will cater to family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.

Locations and Playoffs

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches held at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Leadership Comment

“This will be a competition for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the game – its fervor and ability to unite individuals.”

In excess of three million passes, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
