Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

The manager highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances so bad.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
